Softball is a fun and social sport that's similar to baseball but played with a larger ball on a smaller field. It's easy to pick up, even if you've never played before, and it's all about having a good time with friends or meeting new people.
Teams:
There are two teams, usually with 9-12 players on each side.
The Basics:
One team bats (tries to hit the ball) while the other team fields (tries to catch the ball or get the batter out).
The game is played in "innings." Each team gets a turn to bat and a turn to field in every inning.
Batting:
The batter stands at home plate and tries to hit the ball thrown by the pitcher.
If the batter hits the ball, they run to as many bases as they can before the fielders catch the ball and throw it to the base the runner is heading toward.
The goal is to make it around all four bases (first base, second base, third base, and home plate) to score a run.
Fielding:
The fielding team tries to get the batter "out" by catching the ball in the air, throwing it to a base before the runner gets there, or tagging the runner with the ball.
Winning:
The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins!
